A Light on Mabelle Avenue
To Oct 10, 2014
Reception, Fri, Oct 10, 2:30-5:30pm
Presented with MABELLEarts
A Light on Mabelle Avenue is on exhibit at Arts Etobicoke, reminding us of a little winter magic during our sunny park days.
Presented in partnership with MABELLEarts, the exhibit features creations from past Light in Midwinter Parades: ‘Winter Park Shopping Cart’, 'Memory Jar Cabinet’ and ‘Cascade of Plates’.
These selected works come together at Arts Etobicoke to form an imaginary map of a real place - Mabelle Avenue, moving from the depths of winter into the soft light of spring. Thanks to lead artists Leah Houston, Sonja Rainey and Shifra Cooper.
Katherine Fleitas, photographer
MABELLEarts brings together people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to make art, tell stories and creatively transform the Mabelle neighbourhood – a high-density Toronto Community Housing complex in Central Etobicoke.
Every year, MABELLEartists and Mabelle residents of all ages and backgrounds come together to create A Light In Mid Winter - a community parade that celebrates the imagery and stories of the diverse people living on and around Mabelle Avenue. The parade combines site specific performance, lanterns, video projection, costumes, and food to create a winter revelry designed to light up the cold, dark night.
