Creativity Rocks! Drawings, Poems & Stories by Etobicoke Students
Presented with The Milkweed Collective
Jan 25 – Apr 30, 2012
Reception, Apr 11, 2012 6 – 8:30pm
This exhibition featured vibrant drawings, poems and stories by twenty-four students in Grades 2 to 8 from five Etobicoke schools: C.E. Webster Public School, John D. Parker Junior School, John English Junior Middle School, North Kipling Junior Middle School, Wellesworth Junior School.
These aspiring artists created their pieces as part of Exploring Creativity In Depth (ECiD) – an arts enrichment program of The Milkweed Collective (Dr. Austin Clarkson, director) and supported by Arts Etobicoke and the Neilson Park Creative Centre.
ECiD is a unique workshop program that stimulates creativity and educates the imagination by reflective viewing of artwork in a gallery, making original drawings with oil pastels, and writing poems and stories about the drawings.
On April 11, many of the young artists as well as Grade 7 & 8 students from North Kipling Junior Middle School crowded into the Arts Etobicoke Gallery for a special celebratory reception.
A highlight of the evening were dance and poetry readings by students to celebrate Arts Etobicoke's Art Alley Poetry Mural produced with City of Toronto Poet Laureate Dionne Brand for Amnesty International’s Project: Urban Canvas. This event and exhibition were part of National Poetry Month.
