Exploring Creativity in Depth

Exploring Creativity in Depth: Student Artwork, Poems, and Stories

A Collaboration Between the Milkweed Collective and Arts Etobicoke
Thursday, September 20 - Thursday, November 1, 2007
Opening Reception: Thurs, Sept. 20, 2007

In the spring of 2007, thirty-one Grade 5 students from Wellesworth Junior School let loose at the Neilson Park Creative Centre Gallery for Exploring Creativity in Depth. We then displayed the engaging artwork, poems and stories that they created through this program in our Storefront Gallery.

The students loved Exploring Creativity in Depth, as their comments testify:
"Art is awesome."
"My imagination should be used instead of just staying in my head."
"I could be a good artist."
"Art is your imagination in disguise."

Developed by Dr. Austin Clarkson and the Milkweed Collective, Exploring Creativity in Depth promotes personal growth by taking participants on a creative journey in which they express images and feelings through visual art and writing.  Formed in 1995 and based in the GTA, the Milkweed Collective includes award-winning painters, poets, photographers, authors, therapists and educators. Since 2002, over 2000 children in grades 1 to 8 from 20 elementary schools West Toronto have participated in the program.
