'Our City, Our Stories' Photography

Instructor: Bridget Rowe
Date: July 11 – August 8, 2009
Ages: 13-22

We were pleased to offer free photography workshops as part of Our City, Our Stories, a workshop series and contest open to Toronto youth ages 13-22. The workshops took place at the Arts Etobicoke Gallery July 11 – August 8, 2009. Canon generously supplied new digital cameras and equipment for the workshops, including a digital printer.

Led by instructor Bridget Rowe, participants created photographic stories about culture, neighbourhoods, friends, and everyday occurrences that illustrate life in the city. Three of our workshop participants - Jennifer Meza, Lina Shbaita and Nayef Sayed – entered the contest.

From May 1 – July 2, 2010, the works of all participants were featured in our Gallery for the "Made You Look!" exhibition, a part of the 14th Annual Toronto CONTACT Photography Festival.

The Our City Our Stories program culminated in an exhibition at Toronto City Hall and a reception hosted by Mayor David Miller for all workshop participants and their families on Feb 18, 2010. This free exhibition then moved to the Etobicoke Civic Centre from March 11 to 25, 2010 and to the Scarborough Civic Centre from April 12 to 21, 2010.

Our City, Our Stories, powered by Canon is a partnership between The City of Toronto, Canon Canada and Community Arts Partners: Arts Etobicoke, Lakeshore Arts, Scarborough Arts Council and UrbanArts Community Arts Council.
