Launched in 2010, our After-School Art Drop-in program is a hit with local youth who participate on a regular basis to make art, socialize and learn.
The program features free weekly arts educational activity for children and youth and accommodates up to 20 participants.
The classes are led by professional artist Faten Toubasi. An art teacher with years of experience in her native Palestine, Faten lives in the nearby Mabelle neighbourhood where many of the Drop-In participants also live.
Once again, guest artists are engaged for the Drop In, contributing energy and diversity to the program with instruction in various art disciplines.
On January 18, artist Angel Beyde presented “Storytelling Tsunami!" Inspired by the Idle No More environmental movement, this Comic Strip workshop for teens used fun, water-based themes and a mix-and-match approach to unleash the kids' inner storytellers. Starting with dynamic sound and movement based warm-up activities, Angel offered a relaxed and supportive environment for flowing creativity.
In the spring, Drop-In participants will learn photography skills through a series of workshops with guest artist Katherine Fleitas.
