Art on the Move - 2013

Luminato Portrait: an Art on the Move Project

Produced by Arts Etobicoke, Lakeshore Arts in association with Luminato Festival.

Art on the Move
(presented by Arts Etobcioke and Lakeshore Arts) is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Luminato, Toronto’s Festival of Arts and Creativity.

Children from the Karen Kain School of the Arts in Etobicoke, led by arts educator Melissa McGrath, will produce an art-adorned Kia vehicle that will be displayed at Luminato Festival.

Launched in 2009, Art on the Move has already seen 14 vehicles wrapped in original art. Thanks to this exciting new partnership with Luminato, the 15th vehicle is well on its way.

This public, mobile art and outreach project engages professional artists and young people to collaborate on a design which will wrap a Kia vehicle – collaborative ‘portraits’ of Luminato Festival, illustrating the guiding principles of the Festival – transformation, collaboration, accessibility and diversity.

Working in partnership with Arts Etobicoke and Lakeshore Arts, local artist Melissa McGrath will facilitate a series of workshops with grade 6-8 students at the Karen Kain School for the Arts, to create this collaborative design.

As a second phase to the project (March-April), Luminato will arrange Artist-in-the-School visits, where selected Luminato artists will talk to students about their work and involvement with the Festival.

During the Festival, participating students will also be invited to experience selected Luminato events, and write reviews/narrative reflections of their Luminato experiences (selections of which will be included in the Luminato newspaper and Luminate blog).
